I work at Time Doctor as VP of Sales, where I create and manage the strategy for our inbound, outbound, channel, and expansion sales teams. We have Researchers, SDRâs, BDRâs, AEâs, AMâs and Managers.
Tell us about your team!
How big is it?
Researchers - 3
SDRs - 4
BDRâs - 4
AEâs - 5
AMâs - 2
Managers - 4 â
Where are your teammates located?
USA, Mexico, El Salvador, Panama, India, Italy, Belarus, Philippines, Thailand.
What does your team do? What are you responsible for?
We generate and qualify sales leads in order to help people get into a trial of Time Doctor, see its value, and ultimately purchase our tool.
What are the components of a strong remote culture?
Video communication
Communicating the same thing multiple times in multiple locations (slack, email, video, zoom)
Regular check ins about how people are doing
Banter in a public channel
Having âoffsitesâ where we can let our hair down & most importantly, dedicated time where we are all vulnerable about personal life.
Strong remote cultures are built on strong connections. Strong connections are built with Hailey.
How do you make sure your team is happy and engaged in their work?
Check in regularly on how they are feeling and turn those into to-doâs for the management team. Examples include:
People not feeling like thereâs enough communication - we decreased the time between offsites from 4 to 3, and changed what content we put into our Monday meeting.
âPeople not feeling like they can progress - this led us to us create a playbook for how to get promoted, etc.
Our strong remote culture is influenced by having âoffsitesâ where we can let our hair down and most importantly, dedicated time where we are all vulnerable about personal life.
What's your biggest challenge as a remote leader?
Time Zones - itâs hard to manage a team when theyâre awake when youâre asleep...
My Remote Manager Toolbox
Team-building Activities
Build a spotify playlist together
Scavenger hunt
Pictionary
Prompted questions that ask people to be vulnerable (ex. Whatâs the hardest thing youâve had to go through?)
Prompted question for us to compliment each other anonymously
Remote Games
Yes, but theyâre not super popular. We did an Airbnb experience of coffee tasting and another one for cooking pasta that was super popular though.
Icebreakers
I usually joke around and we get right to it. Icebreakers are too formal and donât tell you much - a question like âwhatâs a time period of your life that really made you who you are todayâ, âwhatâs something youâre really proud of that youâve accomplishedâ, etc are way more valuable and you donât need to do them all the time.
